Our kit will allow you to fit a leaf sprung '79-'85 solid front axle in place of the factory independent suspension. Our hangers are formed from 1/4" steel plate to withstand serious rock abuse. The shackles are formed from 3/8" steel plate. The frame shackle sleeves are designed for factory sized bushings. We supply graphite impregnated, polyurethane bushings for these sleeves. We then supply four 1/4" thick gussets to brace the front hangers, since they are outboard of the frame. The gussets are designed into the factory equipped straight axle frame for their strength. All the bolts supplied are 18mm grade 8.8, again matching the factory sizes. However, we supply all metal locknuts to go with these bolts. These nuts will not come loose like the cheaper nylon nuts will, but cost about 5 times as much. We feel our customers are worth the extra cost, in order to keep their vehicles safe for themselves, and others. In designing our kit, we have matched it to a factory straight axle frame as closely as possible. With so many differences being built into the frame, we had to make our front hangers with 1/2" of drop, and 1" over stock shackles. However, when comparing a factory straight axle equipped vehicle to one that has been converted, the factory equipped one will sit about 1.5" lower. This is something to consider when deciding on rear springs. Converting to leaf springs will require cutting two holes through the frame to hang the shackles. This kit simply hangs the spring on your vehicle.
